Waking The Tiger: Healing Trauma

This groundbreaking book completely reshaped how I understand trauma and healing. Peter Levine reveals how trauma isn’t just a psychological experience—it’s something that lives in the body. Through powerful stories and accessible science, he shows how animals naturally release stress and how we, too, can restore our innate ability to regulate and find safety within.

Waking the Tiger helped me see how sensations, movement, and presence can unlock deep healing. If you’ve ever wondered why your body reacts the way it does—or how to begin feeling more grounded and whole—this book is a beautiful place to start.

The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological Foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-Regulation

As you know, I'm certified in applied polyvagal theory, so I adore this book! Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory is one of the most influential works in understanding how our nervous system shapes our emotions, relationships, and sense of safety. This book dives deep into how the vagus nerve influences everything from our ability to connect with others to how we recover from stress and trauma.

Reading and studying this helped me make sense of why certain somatic practices are so effective—it bridges the science of the body with the lived experience of healing. If you’re interested in understanding the biological roots of calm, connection, and resilience, this book is a must-read.

Satya Sai Baba Incense - Variety Pack

Sure, as a yogi, it would make sense that I use incense, but the reason why it makes my list of somatic resources goes deeper.

I grew up in a neglected household, where there weren't very many pleasant smells or lovely things. A lot of the decor around me became dirty, gray, and rundown. So, once I started living on my own, creating a safe and inviting space became important to me.

I am a big fan of Satya Sai Baba incense (producer of Nag Champa) since I traveled to India many years ago, and I love their variety packs. One of my rituals is to light incense when I'm working, cooking, or before going to sleep. It offers me comfort through and through!
